There are several different companies that are making self driving cars, and all of them are being made for different reasons. One of the best known companies is Tesla. Their goal is to make self driving cars that are also electric vehicles to sell to the public and be used as personal vehicles. Another well know company is Waymo. Waymo used to be known as the Google self driving car project. Their approach to self driving cars is to make them like taxis where you call for one, get picked up and dropped off, then get a different one on the way back. This is a fleet of cars that anyone can use, which is different than Tesla’s approach of personal vehicles. The last types of self driving cars are for commercial use, like the trucks discussed in post four, but there are too many companies working on those to list here. Those companies are all working on self driving cars to fill one particular need and are really only selling their cars to businesses.
